![]() Well, it's been a crazy few weeks. We have done everything from an archival photo restoration project to visiting the bowels of a offshore oil rig. Now we're headed across the island working on the never ending Exit Zero documentary film project. So, before we take off I'll leave you with this shot of the Stella Burry Community Services building at Rawlings Cross in St. John's which we shot for a multimedia presentation at the Newfoundland Historic Trust Southcott Awards which are being held Tuesday night at The Newman Wine Vaults in St. John's. Last week OIL, a photographic exhibition by Edward Burtynsky opened at The Rooms. In my opinion, this is the best photography exhibit ever put on display at The Rooms and I encourage you to go see it. His work spans more than 10 years and looks at a broad scope of the oil industry and its attendant industrialization. My favourite is his photographs of the ship breaker in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Mr. Burtynsky's large prints are a pleasure to view after becoming accustomed to the small mediums of print and now online. CBC Online producer Kathryn King has put together a feature at CBC-NL about the exhibit with some of Mr. Burtynsky's photos, an interview by Weekend AM's Angela Antle and she was kind enough to recognize my work in the Newfoundland offshore oil industry by including a gallery of my photos with my perspective of Newfoundland's fledgling oil industry. I'm not sure what Mr. Burntynsky would think of having his work along side mine but I was honoured to be asked to contribute to the online feature. I'm told Mr. Burtynsky tried to get offshore ...but no luck. Thursday, May 13

For our offshore photography work not only do we travel to the offshore installations by helicopter like the rest of the offshore workers (unless we take a supply boat) we also use Cougar Helicopters as a shooting platform for the aerial photography of the rigs, tankers and production facilities. It takes a lot of logistical coordination and planning to get a camera on a dedicated helicopter over target and all it takes is a bit of wind or fog and weeks of planning gets scrubbed. Along with the photos in the PHOTOS folder on this page you can see some of this work on our portfolio page. Photo by Greg Locke © 2010 Wednesday, May 12

![]() We're back from Water World. No sign of Kevin Costner (look it up) but did manage to catch a rare and brief sunset with the offshore supply vessel Maersk Launcher as a model. Photo by Greg Locke © 2010 Sunday, April 25
