View Article  2010 Juno Awards ...have left the building

Well, we finally finished editing and shipping the last of the 2010 Juno Awards photos out to the clients and the many stock requests for now. We shot the event here in St. John's for a couple of editorial and industry clients. It was a long week. We shot in bars and ballrooms, on the Red Carpet, in a mini studio and, of course, the main event at Mile One Centre.

It's always great to shoot alongside our visiting colleagues and the CARAS/JUNO people were awesome with their help and accommodating the needs of a dozen stressed out photographers. Special thanks go to Chris and Charlene!

Here is a photo gallery of some of our favourites.

...and if any knows who the guy was that took the photo of Michael Buble posing with the photographers on the red carpet please let me know at locke@straylight.ca ...or have him send me a copy!!

The Thursday night show at The Delta with The Novaks, The Idlers and Hey Rosetta was jam packed and it rocked. All three are Newfoundland bands that play the St. John's area regularly and well worth the effort of getting out to see. You'll enjoy yourself.

View Article  Anonymous can't hide anymore.
Can't say you didn't see this coming. I could never understand how a professional news organization would allow anonymous comments, letters or contributions on their websites when they would never allow it in their print or broadcast editions. I can't believe their lawyers would permit it.

Just because this Internet thing is a new platform or medium for some of them it doesn't mean responsibility, integrity,  professional standards or the law doesn't apply anymore.

A Halifax court has ordered The Coast newspaper to identify anonymous commenters on their website.

The Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge approved the request by Halifax’s firefighters Chief Bill Mosher and Deputy Chief Stephen Thurber to order a weekly newspaper and Google to reveal the identities and IP addresses of seven people who, they claim, defamed them.

"I find the order is appropriate in the circumstances," said Justice Heather Robertson. "The court doesn’t condone the conduct of anonymous Internet users."

The alleged defamatory comments were posted by six people anonymously on the Coast’s website under a story about fire department racism. Another person using a Gmail account circulated an online letter also alleged to be defamatory.

It's Juno Award week in St. John's and the place is abuzz. Things kicked off with performances on Tuesday night and we are there all week! The big awards gala is Sunday night. The singer songwriter concert at the Delta was great and the set and lighting was spectacular in the small room.

I'm covering different parts for different clients so watch this space for photos.  ...and I'm taking requests!! SO, hit the comments section with your favorite Canadian musician ...who might be here for the Juno's, and I'll try my best to get them.

Angela Antle and Sean Panting shout it out to the winds on Signal Hill as they kick off the Sound Symposium Complaints Choir ...and they want your whine! for performances during Sound Symposium XV July 2 -10, 2010 in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Lets Vent Together! grumble in unison, warble our whinging, groan out our grouses, expostulate while harmonizing and join the musical moaners of other nations who have also formed complaints choirs. Citizens of St. John's could be the world's best complainers...what with the weather, icy sidewalks, lack of recycling and the fact that we have to fly to Halifax to go to London!?

The Sound Symposium Complaints Choir is currently gathering complaints: the serious, silly and ultimately sing-able. Go to our Facebook Group "XV Sound Symposium Complaints Choir" or send an email and tell us what you're complaining about. The complaints will be turned into a song by our talented composer and musician Sean Panting. Then choir mistress extraordinaire Kellie Walsh will assemble a group of singers to croon out out complaints. Artist Angela Antle will create a video of the experience to put on the international Complaints Choir website.

The XV Sound Symposium Complaints Choir will perform at various locations throughout the Sound Symposium...stay tuned for your chance to participate.

The first Complaints Choir was started by Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen. In Finnish the expression "Valituskuoro" means "Complaints Choir" and it is used to describe situations where a lot of people are complaining simultaneously.Kalleinen and Kochta-Kalleinen thought: "Wouldn´t it be fantastic to take this expression literally and organize a real Complaints Choir!" There are now Complaints Choirs around the world.
