We were out last night doing some time lapse testing for an upcoming short film. Trying to decide a format to use. This "video" is actually about 700 still frames from a Nikon digital camera.

Historic Trust releases postcard

The Newfoundland Historic Trust has released a postcard showing the impact of the proposed Fortis development using 3D modeling by architect Robert Mellin. You can find them around town or download your own JPEG or PDF(right mouse click and save to your computer).

Pick up a few or download, print and send to Mayor O'Keefe and the city councillors with your thoughts on the Fortis project.

Congratulations Darka

A big congratulations to artist Darka Erdelji on winning the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) 2009 Rhonda Payne Theatre Award this week.

Darka is a puppeteer, sceneographer, illustrator, and the artistic director of Soup Theatre. Originally from Slovenia, she came to Newfoundland in 2003. Since then she has produced and performed puppet adaptations of Hans Christian Andersen’s Big Klaus Little Klaus; An Old House (based on a Slovenian Fairytale); and The Crane Wife (a Japanese story).

She has served as puppet sceneographer and set designer with several Newfoundland companies including the Gros Morne Theatre Festival (Magic Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk), Wonderbolt Circus (All Fool’s Day and Tricksters), and the Resource Centre for the Arts (Borrowed Black). She has also worked with Andy Jones on King o Fun and The Queen of Paradise’s Garden.

As an illustrator Darka has created several stamps for her own country’s postal system. Her book credits include illustrations for Andy Jones’ The Queen of Paradise’s Garden, Beni Malone and Marian Francis White’s The Sights Before Christmas, and Ivo Stropnik’s Velenjice (Velenje Slovenia).

She was also named the NL Press 2009 Artist of the Year for her work on Queen of Paradise Garden and a giant Newfoundland dog puppet that went to the the Olympics with Wonderbolt Circus.

YEAH!! ...It's a Sound Symposium year and the organizers have released the first look at their lineup of artists for the coming event July 2 - 10 in St. John's Newfoundland. Check out their new website for updates. This is a stunning 10 day event that brings the highest caliber international artists to city for concerts, workshops, exhibitions and collaborative experience. What makes this unlike other festivals is that the general public are invited to participate, meet and interact with the visiting artists. It's far beyond the usual "festivals" which are little more than a series of stage performances.
