Just finished up the Royal Tour 2009 for Reuters and decompressing from that bubble. It was a fun assignment, especially hanging out with my British colleagues. Their humour and perspective on the news business, Royals and competitive media was a welcome break from the sometimes far too serious and sanctimonious tone of Canadian media.
I've created a gallery (over there in the left column) with a very small selection of the photos made last week. You can check in at the NL Press galleries for a full collection of photos from Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall's visit to Newfoundland. All photos © 2009 Greg Locke / Reuters.

Twenty years ago today I packed up my cameras, Fodor's Berlin guide and a primitive 286 computer (anyone remember those?) and flew to Berlin to cover the fall of the Berlin Wall and the demise of communism in Eastern Europe. It was heady times in both the East and West and an amazing assignment and adrenalin rush for a young journalist. I ended up traveling from Poland to Turkey on that trip with my work ending up in the Globe and Mail, Newsweek, Christian Science Monitor and a number of other publications.
For my third chef portrait this year it was Justin Igloliorte at Basho. A contemporary Japanese fusion restaurant on Duckworth Street in St. John's. Basho is one of a number of contemporary restaurants that are popping up in Newfoundland offering something something more global and cosmopolitan than the tradition local fare.
