View Article  Beckie Scott skies Newfoundland schools

Canadian olympic and world champion cross country skier, Beckie Scott, was in town last week to kick off a three year progam to promote skiing to young people and spread the word about RIGHT TO PLAY, an international development agency focused on education of young people in developing nations through sport and play. StatOilHydro is sponsoring the program and has donated to RIGHT TO PLAY. Her presentations to the local ski community, school groups and the business community were compelling and it was, needless to say, a pleasurable assignment to work Ms. Scott. More on her visit at NL PRESS.

The Queen of Paradise's Garden by Newfoundland story teller Andy Jones and Czech puppet maker Darka Elderji may well have been the best thing I have seen in months. It was on this weekend at the Gower Street United Church and if you missed it.... just go hire them for your kids next birthday party, family gatherning or corporate function.  ...its not just for kids.

The show blends traditional Newfoundland story telling with the unique aesthetic of Eastern European puppet theatre. It was simple, subtle and brilliant!

Happy New Years from Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John s, Newfoundland. Because of our half our time zone we get to be the first in North America to celebrate the new year. This year the fireworks were moved from the harbourfront to the lake but hopefully next year we,ll back overlooking the harbour. But this kinda worked out too. Gotta go, toes are getting cold!  ...greg
